Frank Lloyd Wright Trust Collection
The Trust’s collection includes furnishings, decorative arts and architectural designs. In the Wasmuth Portfolio (Berlin, 1910), Wright described his goal as such: "To thus make of a dwelling place a complete work of art… this is the modern American opportunity.” Bold, innovative and architectural, Wright’s furniture and decorative works were conceived as an integral element of his architectural interiors, designed in harmony with each specific commission.
Much of the Trust’s collection is on permanent display in its original context at Wright’s Oak Park Home and Studio. Signature works in the collection include: Wright’s seminal furniture suite designed for the dining room of his Oak Park residence; one of five known oak print stands designed to exhibit and examine items from Wright’s extensive collection of Japanese prints; leaded glass windows at the Home and Studio that chart the development of Wright’s innovative glass designs; cantilevered oak and leaded glass light fixtures designed for the 1895 playroom; and iconic copper vessels designed by Wright in the 1890s and executed by the Chicago firm of James A. Miller and Bros.
Featuring some of Wright’s earliest furniture and decorative objects, the Trust’s collection offers a remarkable insight into the evolution of Wright’s visionary philosophy of design.
Over the past 40 years, the Trust’s collections have grown through gifts and bequests donated by public-spirited individuals. The Trust’s collections were primarily acquired through gifts—an extraordinary testament to the generosity of our donors, members, and volunteers. There are several ways in which collectors can donate works of art to the Trust:
- as an outright gift
- as a fractional interest gift (donated incrementally)
- as a bequest in the giver's will
To inquire about giving a work of art to the Trust, please send digital images of the object and any details (such as artist/maker, date, and medium) to info@flwright.org.
All contributions to the Trust are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
