Wright in Focus: Frank Lloyd Wright Bus Tour
This tour offers a unique day tour of Wright’s Chicago sites in conjunction with the exhibition Photographing Frank Lloyd Wright on view at the Driehaus Museum through January 5, 2025. The tour is a collaboration between the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust and the Driehaus Museum.
Meet your group at the Driehaus Museum for a 10 am private tour of Photographing Frank Lloyd Wright. Learn about Wright’s photography and the photographers who documented his career.
At 11 am depart by motorcoach for the Frederick C. Robie House (1908-10) in Hyde Park, where you’ll enjoy lunch in the home followed by an in-depth tour. The house will be closed to the public on the day of your visit, so it will be exclusively yours to explore and experience. Robie House is Wright’s definitive Prairie style house and the only one of his buildings he later fought to save from demolition. Recognized worldwide as a masterpiece of early modernism, Robie House is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Depart Robie House by motorcoach at 1:30 pm and arrive at the final stop, the magnificent downtown Rookery Building, one of Chicago’s early skyscrapers, where you will tour the luminous multi-level light court designed by Wright in 1905-07 at the invitation of Daniel Burnham, whose firm Burnham and Root had designed The Rookery building.
Please note this tour begins at the Driehaus Museum (50. E. Erie) and ends at The Rookery Building (209 S. LaSalle Street).
