The Robert Emmond house was another of Wright’s “bootleg” houses— independent projects that he undertook while employed by Adler and Sullivan. Wright’s bootleg houses share much in common, including square plans, strong geometric forms, and minimal decoration. Elements like the octagonal bays and projecting dormers, as well as the asymmetrical orientation of the front door, reveal the influence of the Shingle style and Wright’s former employer, Joseph Lyman Silsbee.
